Here's a chart tracking weight gain for the puppies. They are doing so well now. Getting a bit rotund I might add, especially Sarafina!

I hope to post some new pics this weekend.

Well, it's been a trying week. It would have been nice to have the week off from work to deal with all of this but that wasn't possible. Thanks to my daughters we were able to feed the puppies on a rigorous schedule, even during night, as we all took turns. They are all doing great now, gaining precious weight daily and have voracious appetites!

Unfortunately, Rafiki was not able to snap out of it and never recovered from the events of last week. After multiple visits to the veterinarian and with no signs of improvement, he had to be put down yesterday. Sad news indeed.

So we are grateful to have four beautiful puppies to nurture and prepare for a future of fulfillment.

Now that thing have somewhat settled down, I will attempt to respond to emails this weekend that I have not had time for. Everyone's patience and words of encouragement have been greatly appreciated.

Below is a picture I took this morning of the pups. More will come on a little more routine basis from now on.

So Missy (Mystic) had her puppies on schedule on Saturday, January 28th, 2012!
                                         !!!!!!!   SAD NEWS   !!!!!!!

As it turns out, Missy never produce any milk for her new litter, a first for us, which left us unprepared. The condition is called agalactia. The puppies appeared to be doing fine on Sunday, but by Monday they had gotten quite dehydrated, and one, Vitani, was lost. The remainder received subcutaneous injections of hydrating fluids and were started on milk replacement. They are doing much better, though now they are rather high maintenance critters requiring hand feeding on a rigorous schedule. This is taking a rather large effort by the entire family, so please have patience as we work through this endeavor.

Proud Missy with her new puppies!

Two boys and four girls, one of which is no longer with us.

We give all of our new puppies temporary names while they are growing up with us. Our daughters have always been responsible for coming up with the names, and have found that character names from a movie or TV series works well. This time the theme comes from the animated hit movie The Lion King. So welcome our five new puppies, boys Simba and Rafiki, and girls Kiara, Nala and Sarafina.
